Municipal Elections Qualifying THIS WEEK!
Qualifying for the April 6th Municipal elections runs from Wednesday, February 13th through Friday, February 15th. Candidates must qualify with their local Registrar of Voters office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day.
Offices are posted on our "Who Is Running?" pages. They include the positions of Alderman, Councilman, Chief of Police and Mayor for several Louisiana villages, towns and cities. All told there are 103 offices up for grabs, and this will be the last opportunity to run for any office until the Spring of 2014.
Anyone contemplating running for office in the next few years should strongly consider filing for local office, NOW, this week. If not for the experience of actually serving in office, then do so simply for the experience gained in campaigning and name recognition. You might get elected just by filing unopposed! (as two Louisiana Libertarians did in November 2012)
Volunteer TODAY! See our Who's Running pages for more info.
New Charitable Project!
The Optimist Club of Lafayette is in dire need of a new roof over their entire facility. They have not received any official estimates for the job, but preliminarily have determined themselves, that materials will run at a minimum $4,000. This will wipe out approximately HALF of their current balance of funds for their youth scholarships and events. Every dollar spent on the roof is a dollar they won't have available to put towards projects for the kids they help and serve.
Find out more about this project and why the LPL is promoting and supporting it on our new Charitable Projects page.
Caucus & Planning Meetings posted
The Libertarian Party of Louisiana will kickoff the new year by announcing our very first Caucus of 2013 to be held in St Tammany Parish. St. Tammany registered Libertarians will vote to fill up to 16 positions on their Parish Executive Committee. All Libertarians are invited to attend and there will be open voter registration at the event.
Please see our press release featured in the Times Picayune and "Like" the article at the bottom of the page to show your support!
We will be forming Parish Executive Committees across the state, working to grow our membership to 15,000 by 2014 and recruiting candidates to run for local office.
Planning meetings are also scheduled for Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, St. Mary, and Terrebonne Parishes.
See our Events Page, and our Caucus page for more details and to RSVP.
