[LPL Board of Directors] MOTION FROM THE CHAIR - urgent - radio advertising

To all SCC members,

My apologies for the short deadline of this vote.  I generally do not 
prefer to make such a request.

Our Elections officer Boyd Smith would like approval to spend party 
funds on radio advertising our presence at the Ponchatoula Strawberry 
Festival this weekend. (to encourage people to stop by, learn more, and 
sign up as members and change voter registration to LP)

He would like to run 1-2 commercials per day for Wednesday, Thursday & 
Friday. (deadlines mean maybe only Thurs. and Fri. are available)

The cost for 60 second spots is $75.
The cost for 30 second spots is $55.

This includes production, but Boyd will be in charge of the script.

The spots will be run during the John Osterlind and Denny Shaffer shows 
on WRNO which have both been friendly to the LP. (I think Osterlind 
already announced he is "libertarian" and endorsed Gary Johnson last 
fall)  Their audience is friendly to our message as well.

On the short side, this will cost $165 for three 30 second spots, or as 
much as $450 for six 60 second spots.

It is estimated that this will increase traffic at the LP booth at the 
festival by about 200 to even maybe 600 people.

We would need to generate 7 new memberships to break even on the low 
end, and 18 to break even on the high end. That would at worst be a 10% 
conversion rate, and at best, only 1%.  I think either number is achievable.

Additionally, if we vote to do this, donors can be targeted to pledge 
the extra bucks to cover the cost so there is still no net loss to the 
bank balance as of today.

All those in favor of authorizing this expenditure please vote AYE as 
soon as possible.  Time lost is time missed to run the spots and reach 
more people.

Of course, our normal rules of 72 hours to vote still apply, but I urge 
you to get your vote in sooner if you are able.

Now that we have 13 members on the Board, 7 will be needed for a quorum 
and a majority of those voting required for passage.

If you intend to vote NAY, please also do that as soon as possible so we 
will know quickly if this measure would fail.
